Pasqualini, Adulthood: representations, planning and styles of transition in young generations This paper analyses representations, planning and styles of transition in two different generations of young people: Stuck Generation – thirty years old youngs – and Active generation – twenty years old youngs. Both generations show elements of continuity and (interesting) discontinuity. While Stuck Generation is characterized by limited planning and strong privatism, Active Generation is proving a major social and political commitment, a more critical attitude and desire to invest in their future. In general terms, in recent years, the life course has lost linearity, becoming complex and «de-standardized», leading sociology of youth to rethink the process of transition to adulthood. This paper analyses two different generations of young people: Stuck Generation – those who are thirty years old – and Active generation – younger brothers, or twenty years old youngs. These two generations show both elements of continuity and (interesting) discontinuity. While Stuck Generation is characterized by low social and spatial mobility, by limited planning and privatism, Active Generation is proving a major social and political committment, a more critical attitude and a desire to invest in the future. Active Generation is also optimistic and pragmatic, it wants to live at full rhythm its time and it is no longer willing to accept to live an empty time, without any chance of real life. The purpose of this paper is three-fold. First, it offers a wide overview of the Italian sociological research about young people condition from the 50s to the first decade of XXI Century. As a second aim, this article sketches out an analysis of social and cultural change by observing how social representations of youth transform themselves from generation to generation – Baby Boomers’ generation, X Generation and Y Generation. Last it tries to argument for the institution of a real and more specialized «sociology of youth» as a new and autonomous field of research. This article examines roles and aims of writing in Social sciences and in literature analysing and comparing the works of the sociologist Edgar Morin and the athropologist Marc Augé. In thei wide intellectual production, these authors, in fact, share the same tendency to use different genres of writing. Beside of their scientific production, both Augé and Morin have published also diaries, essays and, in Augé’s case, even novels. This paper try to read such tendency in writing experiments as indicator of the authors’ capability to produce an interdisciplinary research.
